If you’re a fan of Crocs, it’s time for an upgrade with the Under Armour UA SlipSpeed Mega Trainers. These innovative trainers are not only versatile but also incredibly comfortable and stylish – making them a fantastic alternative to your beloved (aesthetically questionable) rubber clogs. These sleek-looking trainers transition from a regular sneaker to a casual slide by folding down the cleverly-designed heel – but are they as good as they sound? We put them through their paces for a month so let’s dive in.

What Makes the UA SlipSpeed Mega Trainers Stand Out?

1. Convertible Fold-Down Heel

The UA SlipSpeed Mega Trainers feature a unique convertible design that allows you to switch from “Run Mode” (with the heel up) to “Recovery Mode” (with the heel folded down, to create a closed-toe slide) effortlessly. This design is perfect for travel, combining your gym shoes and casual slides into one pair. We were worried that with the heel folded down, it would feel bulky, like we were walking around with our socks bunched under our feet but it was fine – we didn’t feel anything. In slide mode, we tested these with and without socks and both were comfortable. The heel is made of a durable neoprene-type material – it needs to be flexible in order to neatly fold down. So if you prefer a stiffer heel counter for Achilles support, these probably aren’t for you. We actually ended up wearing them more as slides than as regular sneakers.

2. BOA Fit Auto-Lace System

Say goodbye to traditional shoelaces! The UA SlipSpeed Mega Trainers use the Boa Fit system. With a dial mechanism, you can get a personalised fit. Turn the dial to tighten or pull up for a quick release. This system provides surprising support and a custom fit each time you wear them. Plus, it’s faster than tying regular laces—who doesn’t love a little time-saving? We were initially worried it would be hard to adjust or that the string would get tangled in the twist mechanism, but we got the hang of it. A super-comfortable and precise fit, it felt like they’d been custom-made to fit our feet.

3. Supersized Midsole for Ultimate Comfort

These are a chunkier robust Dad-style trainer, and that’s partly due to the UA Flow cushioning and thicker bouncy sole. These are lightweight, durable and feel springy to walk in – an Under Armour signature that we love about the technology in all of their sneakers. As you move, it feels like they help propel you forward with a high-energy boost/return which powers you through every step. Made us feel like a super-hero. So motivating when exercising and made us somehow feel less tired when running errands. They also have excellent shock absorption and traction, making them safer and cuter than Crocs, especially in wet conditions. The breathable upper and cool-to-the-touch inner padding keep your feet cool and dry, even on warm days (and even without wearing socks).

The verdict:

At URBANSWEAT, we’re all about finding that perfect blend of form, function and fashion. And we can honestly say the UA SlipSpeed Mega Trainers deliver. With sleek modern lines, bold colourways to choose from, and just enough edge, they’re the perfect blend of style, comfort and high-performance to transition seamlessly from gym workouts to everyday athleisure.
