Are you looking to pitch a tent and start a campfire, but want to stay in easy reach of Sydney? You might be looking for a quick getaway by the beach, or maybe you’re wanting something more inland. Read on for a list of places that we’ve named some of the best camping spots under an hour from Sydney!
Cockatoo Island Camping Camping in the middle of Sydney? Sounds awesome, right! Set up camp in the middle of Cockatoo Island, and drift off to sleep with the sounds of birds in the distance. This camping facility takes the stress out of packing and provides the tent for you. You can also BYO, so there’s an option for all! And if you’re a believer in ghosts, then make sure you stay up late and spook yourself out as you listen to eery sounds echoing around you.
Lane Cove National Park This beautiful spot is only half an hour from Sydney’s CBD and offers both powered and unpowered sites, for $40-$45 per two people. A full laundry, camp kitchen, and toilets are included, so you won’t be roughing it. You’ll be so close to the city, but feel like you’re miles away, surrounded by greenery and animals in this tranquil environment. Pitch your tent at Lane Cove National Park if you are looking for a stress-free getaway with an extremely short journey time!
Nepean River A little over an hour away from Sydney’s CBD, the Nepean River camping spot is right on the river, and will give you exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a little more inland at the foot of the Blue Mountains and is perfect for anywhere up to 12 mates. You’ll find yourself constantly in awe of your surroundings. At Bents Basin, you’ll come across one of the deepest swimming holes in NSW, meaning its a great location to swim, fish or paddle. You’ll have all the facilities you need including hot water, BBQ’s and kitchens.
Narrabeen Caravan Park Now, this takes us back to our childhood! One of our favourite spots happens to be only 40 minutes from Sydney’s CBD. Narrabeen caravan park is a gorgeous camping spot; you’ll spot all sorts of animals, from octopus to ducks and have the leisure of choosing to spend the day at the lake, or the beach… or both! Fun Fact: The river and the lake used to be separated but were conjoined in the early 2000’s. We may or may not have almost been rescued by a fisherman when they were conjoined, but that’s a different story!
Glenworth Valley This gorgeous spot is just over an hour away from Sydney and is home to a large 200-acre riverfront that you’ll be able to pitch your tent on. Fancy a horse ride? Glenworth Valley is known for its beautiful horse riding locations, as well as being able to offer a range of facilities, such as glamping, to accommodate your camping trip.
