Not only is she part of sydney’s fitness royalty, but Kate Kendall is also changing the face of Australia’s fitness events. From silent disco yoga to spin classes in a nightclub, and together with Flow Athletic, she is encouraging us to forgo the pub in order to sweat the night away in a heathier way! And when she’s not wearing a tutu on stage at these events, she teaches yoga classes in Paddington. We caught up with the yoga queen herself to find out a her favourite Sydney healthy hot spots…
Hi Kate, what’s your favourite healthy brunch spot in Sydney?
Definitely, Boots Darling in Darlinghurst. I love their Boots Bircher and freshly squeezed juices. The guys are uber friendly and down to earth too. Good, honest food and a friendly team keep me coming back. For coffee, I love Calipress Bulletproof, and for a healthy lunch I love Ruby’s Diner in Bronte!
Where do you go for a quick dip?
Bronte Bogey Hole (above) or ocean pool depending on my mood.
What’s the best hike or coastal walk in Sydney, in your opinion?
I love to walk the Rose Bay harbour foreshore all the way around to Nielsen Park (above). It’s so pretty and you really feel like you’re getting a good dose of Vitamin N (for nature). The best part is that there are some quiet little swim spots along the way.
Your favourite fitness class (we think we know your answer!)
Flow Athletic (of course). Our philosophy is that you do one strength class for one fitness class for one yoga class, which allows you a balanced and complete workout. We’ve also introduced more mindfulness and ‘Calm’ classes to really look after the community’s collective mental wellbeing. Our whole ‘thing’ though, is creating soul expanding experiences through events like Flow After Dark, Yoga Silent Disco as well as Home Nightclub Spin class.
What’s your favourite Sydney view?
Anywhere I can see a clear horizon! I love Bronte Beach, the headlands, and Dover Heights.
When you’re doing yoga or spin, where do you go for a run?
You’ll find me running along the beautiful stretch of coast from Bronte to Coogee – such gorgeous views.
And lastly, your best healthy tip?
Commit to rituals. My nightly ritual, which I hate to break, involves switching off social media. Plus, 10 minutes of meditation and then having my evening elixir – Blackmores Magnesium Powder in a glass of water before bed. Magnesium is a muscle relaxant that helps to relieve tension naturally, and after all, the brain is a muscle.
